Treatment For Hair Loss
Many effective treatments are available for some types of hair loss. You may be able to reverse your hair loss, or at least you can slow further thinning. With some conditions, such as patchy hair loss i.e. alopecia areata, hair may grow within a year depending on the scalp and immune condition. Treatments for hair loss include US FDA approved medications, some procedures, and surgery to promote hair growth and slow hair loss.
Various treatments for hair loss include :
1.Finasteride:
It is mainly a drug which is used to treat enlarged prostate and is good in the treatment of hair loss in men. Finasteride slows down the further hair loss. Almost about 30% to 40% of men had got the best results from finasteride. Finasteride helps to reduce the production of DHT in the scalp and maintains its level.
2.Minoxidil:
Minoxidil is one of the US FDA approved the medication for the treatment of hair regrowth. But It is actually an antihypertensive drug. It is available in topical form and it is advised to use daily for the best results. About 40 to 45% of men experienced hair regrowth after the continuous use of minoxidil for 3 to 5 months. But always keep in mind to be in a doctor’s guidance before going for the use of minoxidil.
3.Dermaroller:
Dermaroller is a device which has very tiny pricking needles on one side and handle on the other end. It causes minimal injury by pricking the skin of the scalp which actually acts as a wound healing mechanism. It boosts hair growth and improves blood circulation by making little injuries on the scalp.
4.PRP:
PRP is a medical procedure where we use our own growth factors by centrifuging our own blood. Here we centrifuge our own blood to separate rich and poor plasma. This separated rich plasma, we inject into the scalp which will stimulate the growth of new hair. The poor plasma then massaged onto the scalp, which will help the hair to grow healthy and strong.
Is minoxidil effective for hair regrowth?
Minoxidil works for hair loss, as it increases blood flow to the hair follicle. And then increases the thickness of the follicle, it also delays maturing phase i.e. catagen phase of hair. So it decreases the hair loss.
Minoxidil, originally invented for the high blood pressure treatment by acting as a vasodilator, which eventually found out that it causes excessive hair growth. So they started using it in hair loss.
The mechanism of action of the Minoxidil by which it promotes the growth of the hair follicle is still unclear. As Minoxidil is a vasodilator it widens the blood vessels and open ups the potassium channels and allows more oxygen, blood and other nutrients to the follicles for their better growth.
This can even cause shedding of the follicles which are already in the telogen phase. But after the shedding, the new hair follicles come with better thickness and structure, in a new anagen phase.
