A hair transplant is one of the most effective treatments for hair loss. It offers good hair regrowth and the results are almost permanent. In this medical procedure, hair follicles from the scalp where hair growth is present are removed and transplanted into the bald regions on the scalp.
Many people experience hair loss, which further leads to baldness. It is not a painful condition or a contagious disease; however, baldness leads to embarrassment and hampers one’s self-esteem. Baldness also hampers the styling and grooming of hair, as those who experience excessive hair fall, have limited options for hairstyles and haircuts. Those with thin hair or bald patches have to conceal those regions of the scalp and take extra precautions so as to mask the bald regions and carry their crown with confidence.
So, those with excessive hair loss resulting in baldness, mostly opt for a hair transplant. If you are one of them, you must know about the different types of hair transplant procedures and consult an expert in the field before opting for surgery. Here we will be comparing FUE vs FUT vs DHI, to help you know which of these is the best hair transplant procedure for you.

DHI Hair Transplant
DHI stands for Direct Hair Implant. This procedure can be considered as a revised version of FUE as the steps followed in the two are quite similar. In DHI, the hair follicles from the back of your head are extracted using a tool with a fine tip. They are put into a pen-shaped tool and implanted into the balding regions of the scalp. After this procedure, an antibiotic cream and bandages are applied on the sites of implantation. The DHI procedure takes around 8 hours to complete.
FUE Hair Transplant
FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. It is one of the common techniques used for hair transplantation and the other one is FUT. In FUE, hair follicles are removed directly from the scalp and implanted into the balding regions. FUE is more popular than FUT. Micropunches are used to remove and implant the follicles, whereby there are no signs of extraction.
Swelling, bruising, and sensitivity are the temporary side effects of FUE and other possible side effects of this hair transplant procedure include small white scars at the extraction site and rarely, an infection.
FUT Hair Transplant
FUT, the other type of hair transplant procedure, stands for Follicular Unit Transplantation. It is rarely carried out nowadays. In FUT, a strip of skin from the back of your head is cut and individual hair follicles are extracted from the same. These follicles are implanted into the balding regions. FUT is good for covering a receding hairline. Possible side effects of FUT hair transplant include bumps and scars, inflammation, cysts, pain and numbness. FUT may lead to unnatural-looking hair.
